Collection: Raku Pottery

All the Raku pots I make is made in special kinds of clay designed to sustain the extreme thermal shocks. The pots have all been thrown on a potters wheel, trimmed and often carved to create interesting structures.

Usually the Raku Pottery is removed from the 800 to 1000 degree (celsius) ) Raku Kiln and placing it into containers with combustible materials. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colors in glazes and clay bodies. The drastic thermal shock also produce cracking.

Raku Pottery is, similar to Pitfired Pottery and other low fired ceramics porous and not entirely water proof or food safe. I do seal them so they can hold water but if you place them on a sensitive surface I recommend you add something under them for protection.

Also keep in mind that Raku Pottery will slightly change over time. It is not as stable as high fired glazed pots. Adding water in them and exposing them to sun can speed up the process.
